چکیده
Severe hypokalemia can have life-threatening complications such as significant muscle weakness, ileus, rhabdomyolysis, and respiratory failure. Here, we report a case of 33-year-old male who presented with worsening lower extremity weakness falls after smoking marijuana for six months. Initial labs showed severe hypokalemia. EKG was remarkable first-degree AV block, widened QRS complex, ST segment depression. Intravenous potassium replacement resulted in complete resolution motor weakness. Our highlights the underdiagnosed association use clinically rare presentation acute paralysis.

[Familiar hypokalemic periodic paralysis: an uncommon cause of acute flaccid paralysis].
Case Study: We describe the case of a 16 year-old boy with recurrent episodes of decreased muscle strength whose mother had a history of similar episodes. He was admitted in the emergency department with flaccid tetraparesis and hypokalemia (1.4 mmol/L) which resolved after potassium administration. CACNA1S gene molecular study identified the mutation c.1583G>A-(p.Arg528His). Currently he is un...
متن کاملAn Uncommon Cause of Neonatal Hypertension
Background: Adrenal hematoma is a very rare acquired cause of neonatal hypertension. In this study, we report a case of neonatal hypertension associated with adrenal hematoma. A male neonate was immediately transferred to our neonatal intensive care unit after delivery due to meconium aspiration. He needed to be on mechanical ventilation support. During his hospital stay, hospital records showe...
متن کاملLaboratory tests to determine the cause of hypokalemia and paralysis.
BACKGROUND Hypokalemia and paralysis may be due to a short-term shift of potassium into cells in hypokalemic periodic paralysis (HPP) or due to a large deficit of potassium in non-HPP. Failure to make a distinction between HPP and non-HPP may lead to improper management. Therefore, we evaluated the diagnostic value of spot urine tests in patients with hypokalemia and paralysis during 3 years. ...
